West Coast Australia

October 2014 saw Robyn & Fred fly to Perth to see for the first time, the city and parts of the west coast of Australia.
After spending a couple of days in Perth, we hired a car and headed down to the Margaret River area. First stop on the way to Margaret River was Bussleton to see the famous Busselton Jetty, the longest timber-piled jetty in the southern hemisphere. The Busselton Information Centre is located inside an old lighthouse, so we went up to the top to see the wonderful view.
We arrived at Prevally where we had an oceanside holiday unit. Unfortunately there was a huge sand dune in front of our unit blocking our “ocean view”. But the unit was lovely and Prevally was a great choice as a base for the Margaret River.
While in Prevally, we travelled down to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. The lighthouse is located on the headland of Cape Leeuwin, the most south-westerly point on the Australian mainland. Cape Leeuwin also marks the point where two oceans meet – where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. After spending a few cold and windy hours at the lighthouse, we adjourned to their coffee shop where we enjoyed a hot coffee and the most amazing fresh scones with jam & cream we’ve ever tasted. We also visited Hamelin Bay, Jewell Cave as well as the Margaret River township.
After leaving our accommodation in Prevally it was time to head north and back through Perth for more of our West Coast WA Escapades. Along the way we had our first opportunity to see the wildflowers. Even though the season was coming to an end, they were still spectacular.
